In the realm of beauty and career empowerment, Jodie Burwood stands out as a passionate educator and a fervent advocate for individuals in the business. Not only does she impart her extensive knowledge of beauty techniques, particularly in lash and brow treatments, but she also dedicates herself to nurturing a positive, self-sufficient, and successful career mindset among her students.
Perth’s lash and brow goddess, Jodie, is not just a skilled beauty professional; she is also the co-creator of the Perth Hair and Beauty Expo. While her heart lies in the world of beauty, Jodie recognises the importance of creating opportunities for individuals to successfully build careers that can seamlessly integrate with the responsibilities of raising families.
Jodie’s journey in the beauty industry began with a personal exploration of cosmetics and a fascination with enhancing the windows to the soul. From experimenting with various mascaras to mastering the art of eyelash extensions, she immersed herself in the world of beauty, all while navigating the responsibilities of motherhood to her daughter, Pallas, now an adult.
As one of Australia’s earliest adopters of eyelash extensions, Jodie embarked on a course in 2003, driven by a desire to forge a career that aligned with her newfound role as a mother. Drawing on her background in pharmaceutical and cosmetic sales, she sought to combine her passion for beauty with the flexibility required for balancing work and family life.
Over the years, Jodie has not only honed her skills but has also become a trailblazer in the beauty education landscape. Her journey led her to become Australia’s pioneer in eyelash extensions and brow henna treatments, even before the regulatory bodies caught up with the evolving industry.
In 2008, she took the initiative to deliver courses on eyelash extensions, recognising the transformative power of education in changing lives.
Not content with the existing educational framework, Jodie pursued a Cert IV in Training and Assessing in 2010. To her surprise, she discovered that there was no unit of competency for eyelash extensions within the Beauty Diploma in Australia. Undeterred, she took it upon herself to write a comprehensive course, developing effective and safe teaching methods and creating assessment tools for her students.
Jodie’s commitment to her students goes beyond the standard curriculum. Viewing each student as an individual with unique goals and dreams, she takes pride in shaping their pathways to success. With over fifteen years of teaching experience, she acknowledges the power she holds in influencing and enhancing the lives of her students.
In her own words, every course Jodie delivers is a “work in progress.” She embraces the ever-evolving nature of the beauty industry and adjusts her classes to meet the individual needs of her students.
